Community and Partnerships

From the outset of the ShiRP program, our university scientists understood the importance of community outreach, engagement, education, and partnerships. Many stakeholders who live in the vicinity of Shinnecock Bay and around Long Island have a keen interest in improving the health of local water bodies. Effective outreach helps to build local support for our restoration, and strategic partnerships leverage strengths of the collective organizations.

In addition, ShiRP’s scientific approach, activities, and outcomes have been an excellent platform for educating Stony Brook students, local and regional K-12 students, interested citizens and beyond.

Listed below is a subset of community programs and partnerships that ShiRP has led over the past decade.
